2007 CSD Seniors Champions!
In June of 2005 a newly formed Senior Quartet, got together for the first time. Their second public performance was at the Central States District Fall contest in Des Moines in October. In the Senior category, they finished third and in December were invited to compete in Sacramento, California as a wild card entrant in the 2006 International Senior Quartet Competition. They finished 23 among 26 competitors. Been There was born.
Ed Roush, tenor, is a 14-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He describes himself as a retired US Air Force pilot now working for Union Pacific Railroad. His says that his next career will be as a used car salesman! (planes, trains, and automobiles). He enjoys golf, and his goal is to score as high in quartet contest as he does on the golf course. He and his wife, Janet, live in Bellevue Nebraska and have six children and five grandchildren. Eddie has participated in three formal quartets over the years and currently serves on the Sarpy Serenaders' board as their music chairman and is their anchor in the tenor section.
Jim Anderson, Lead, is a 14 year member of the society. He says that music has always been in his blood, but barbershop made it flow. He retired from 25 years of active military service with the United States Air Force in 1995 and currently works for the State of Nebraska as a Juvenile Services Supervisor. Leisure pursuits include gardening and inventing construction projects that will cover the grass in his backyard, so he won't have to push that old lawnmower around. Jim and Ann have been married for 27 years and currently make their home in Bellevue Nebraska. They are very proud parents of four children and seven grandchildren.
Bob Leigh, baritone, is a retired band director from Plattview High School, Springfield Nebraska. He remarks that in 1997 upon retiring, he sought activities to fill the void retirement created in his life. Golf and Barbershop seemed to be the perfect combination. Bob currently sings with the Freemont Pathfinders and comes to Been There as his third experience with quarteting. Like the rest of this quartet, this is his first appearance in the senior circuit. "It's more fun than swatin' flies!" Bob and Phyllis Leigh have three children and seven grandchildren and currently call Papillion, Nebraska their home.
Bill Crowell, Bass, is a 20-year of service retired US Air Force pilot, flying some planes that were retired from service before others in his quartet even graduated from high school! He took on and retired from a second career State Farm Agent and Manager. Bill has been a barbershopper for 16 years and has been in various quartets the entire time. When Bill is asked the question, "what kind of work do you do?" his answer is crisp, clear, and precise. "Anything I want to!" Bill and Kathleen (Vaughan) Crowell recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their 7 children and 14 grandchildren.
