This quartet started singing together in October 2007. They made their debut as "Vocal Pointe" on the Pathfinder's Annual Christmas Show in December. Andrew Nehls was singing baritone then, but had to back out after the show due to increasing job obligations. (Yes, jobs do come first, over having fun. Why is that?) Jeff Blank just recently agreed to "fill that empty spot" in the quartet, and we changed our name to "BEAT STREET" by unanimous decision. We are trying hard to get in rehearsals and build up a good repertoire. We are having a ball!
Lee Cavner, Lead, has been a member of the Pathfinders for 3 years now and this is his second quartet. He's got a nice, bright melody voice which "punches through nicely" and gives the harmony parts "something to hang their hats on." He also sings in the church choir and Praise Band. When he's not singing, he runs his own business, M.I.T. Consulting. He and his wife, Traci, live in Omaha, NE. Lee has one daughter from a previous marriage that still lives in Germany, two step-daughters, one still living at home and the other grown and on her own, and one step-son who recently moved to Nevada.
Greg Jones, Tenor, has been a member of the Pathfinders for 20 years and this is his tenth quartet. (Hummm…either he can't decide who to sing with, or he's one hard guy to get along with). He sings the "high notes" no one else in the quartet can hit and "adds the sparkle" to their sound. He also sings in the church choir with Lee, plays hand bells in the bell choir, and plays drums in the Praise Band. When he's not singing or playing music, he repairs Musical Instruments with his wife, Nancy, at Schmitt Music Center. He and his wife live in Omaha, NE. They have one daughter, who's in college at UNO.
Jeff Nelson, Bass, has been a member of the Pathfinders for 5 years now and this is also his first attempt at quartetting. Jeff adds "the foundation" to Beat Street's sound. He sings those wa-a-arm, lo-o-ow notes that Greg only dreams of hitting. Greg's been known to interrupt during a rehearsal of a song and say, "Wow! That's a good note, Jeff!" Of course, the quartet cannot continue singing after that. Jeff also sings in his church choir. Jeff has been employed at Valmont Industries in Valley, NE for 29 years. He and his wife, Kathy, live in Fremont, NE. They have two children out on their own.
Jeff Blank, (the other Jeff), Bari, has been a member of the Pathfinders since 2006. This is also his first quartet. The baritone adds "the dignity" to the sound of the quartet. Jeff retired from the Air Force after 20 years in 2006, and now works for Decisive Analytics Corporation. His primary customer is MIT/Lincoln Laboratory and he serves as their liaison to STRATCOM. Jeff and his wife, Lorri, and their 2 kids live in Gretna, NE.
